WEST DES MOINES (AP) — The superintendent of West Des Moines schools is out after two years.
The school board unanimously approved a severance agreement Thursday afternoon with Superintendent Peter Ansingh.
The Des Moines Register reports the board cited “differences of opinions between a majority of the current Board and Ansingh” as the reason for ending his service a year before the contract ends.
The district will pay Ansingh his salary through June 31, 2013, plus a $225,000 lump sum.
He’ll also be paid for unused vacation time and given a letter of recommendation.
Before coming to West Des Moines, the 58-year-old Ansingh was superintendent of the West Valley School District in Yakima, Wash.
Ansingh didn’t attend the meeting but in an email statement cited “philosophical differences with a majority of the School Board.”
