Newton FFA member elected to state office

James Leonard of the Newton FFA Chapter was elected to the office of State Vice-President representing the South Central District during the 85th Iowa FFA Leadership Conference from April 22 to 23 in Ames.

Leonard, a senior at Newton Senior High School, is the son of Tim and Michele Leonard. He currently is completing his term as chapter president and also has served as South Central District Sentinel for the past year. Leonard is extremely dedicated to the FFA. He has been active in numerous activities and competitions during his FFA career. His Supervised Agricultural Experience consists of a market beef enterprise along with working on the family farm.

During his term, Leonard will meet with top leaders in business, government and education and visit many of the FFA chapters across the state as well as conduct workshops and plan the 86th state FFA leadership conference that will be at Iowa State University next April.

The Iowa FFA Association has 230 local chapters with more than 13,000 FFA members. FFA is a national organization of more than 557,000 members preparing for leadership and careers in science, business and technology of agriculture. Local, state and national programs provide opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom. FFA’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
