The Pregnancy Center of Central Iowa, located at 200 N. Eighth Ave. W. in Newton, will host its 22nd Annual Walk for Life to raise money for the center at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The two-mile walk will begin and end at the Newton Christian Reformed Church, located at 511 S. Fifth Ave. E. Registration and all the activities will take place in the church parking lot.
Walkers have been soliciting pledges from area churches and individuals. Area businesses are providing prizes for walkers who raise the most support.
The Pregnancy Center of Central Iowa is a non-profit, community-based, Christian pregnancy center affiliated with Care Net and established in 1991. The purpose of the Pregnancy Center is to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to women who may have an unplanned pregnancy and to assist individuals in understanding the Christian concepts regarding sexuality.
The Center is staffed with volunteers who are committed to assisting women and their families. The Center offers free pregnancy tests, information on pregnancy and prenatal development, information on alternatives to abortion, abstinence education, parenting classes, post-abortion counseling, maternity and baby clothing and equipment. In addition, the center provides referral services for community resources, housing assistance, medical care, childbirth education and adoption counseling. All services offered are free and confidential.
