For their efforts in the cold and rain so far this spring, both Newton soccer teams have found themselves ranked in the top 15 in the state in their respective classes.
The Cardinal boys (3-1, 2-0 Little Hawkeye Conference) climbed to No. 6 in the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association Class 2A poll that was released Tuesday. After not being included on the preseason and Week 1 lists, the Cardinals made their first appearance at No. 11 for Week 2.
Averaging more than five goals per game and sporting an undefeated record of 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference, the Cardinal girls entered this week's Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union rankings at No. 15. Newton replaced conference foe Grinnell in the rankings.
