National Library Week winners head to Science Center of Iowa

Vivienne, Edwin and Olan Thorpe of Newton recently enjoyed a trip to the Science Center of Iowa courtesy of the Newton Public Library.

Winners of the Science Center of Iowa tickets enjoy their visit!

Vivienne, Edwin, and Olan Thorpe were excited when they heard that Vivienne had won four tickets to the Science Center of Iowa in a drawing at the Newton Public Library.

Beth Thorpe wrote: “Vivienne took her older brothers with her to celebrate their birthdays, and the trip to the Science Center was every bit as fun as they anticipated.

They were all impressed at the size of the T. Rex named Sue.  Sue’s head was as big as Vivienne!

“When I stood in front of the dinosaur’s mouth, I thought he was going to eat me!” Olan said.

All of the children enjoyed digging for dinosaur bones.  Vivienne’s favorite part was the Small Discoveries room, although she enjoyed diverting water as well.

Making a rocket was Edwin’s favorite activity, and he was thrilled when his rocket traveled 50 feet.

Olan got to appear on television when a meteorologist broadcast the weather forecast live from the Channel 13 Weather Studio in the Science Center.

Thank you to the Newton Public Library and the Science Center of Iowa for this wonderful opportunity.”

Sue the T. Rex will be at the Science Center of Iowa until May 12.

This is achieved through the collaboration and coordinated effort of hundreds of organizations across the country including businesses, financial institutions, schools, libraries, not-for-profits, government agencies and the media.

These groups come together once a year to stress the importance of financial literacy, inform consumers about where they can get help and provide free educational seminars and activities throughout the week.

Programming is offered to all demographics and income levels and covers all facets of personal finance from establishing a budget to first time home buying to estate planning.
