IHSAA announces several football changes

In an effort to improve player safety, the Iowa High School Athletic Association announced a series of changes to preseason football protocol on Wednesday.

Among the changes are a ban on two-a-day practices, redefined terms of what an actual “practice” is and how much contact can be made in the early portions of practices. The changes were spread out in seven different rules.

Four other football-related items were approved, including the IHSAA and Iowa High School Football Coaches Association making a safety video and schools being approved to scrimmage another school after 10 days of practice but before the first game. The other two changes were related to the running-clock rule and use of the UNI-Dome.
