Henry leads William Penn to NAIA second round

Under the direction of Newton native John Henry, the William Penn University men’s basketball team will play in the second round of the NAIA Division II basketball tournament today.

The Statesmen enter the game with an overall record of 31-1 and will square off against Bethel (Ind.) at noon in Point Lookout, Mo. The team started the season with a 14-0 record and hasn’t lost since Dec. 7.

Henry is in his 12th season coaching the Oskaloosa-based school, where he also played, and has an overall record of 232-155 up to this point. He won the Midwest Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year award in 2007 and is his making his third trip to the NAIA tournament with the Statesmen.
