Radio broadcast team advances to All-State for second consecutive year

The Newton High School large group speech teams, clockwise from top left, The Estrogens, The Undergogs and the Radio Broadcast group, recently competed in both district and state competitions where they all scored highly. The Radio Broadcast team will move onto the All-State competition on Saturday, Feb. 16. 

Many students competed this year in a number of events such as Reader’s Theater, Acting Ensemble and Radio News Broadcasting. The students started practicing for the contests in early November. 

This is the second year in a row that Newton High School has taken a Radio Broadcast to All-State. The Radio Broadcast team and coaches, Cara Schwarz and Will Edgar, would like to thank Joe Swanson and KCOB for their assistance in recording the broadcast.The Speech team continues with Individual competition next weekend in Centerville, Iowa.
