Program on atheism planned at Congregational UCC

Dave Grzskowiak and John Fruetel  will present a program aimed at increasing an understanding of atheists, agnostics and freethinkers at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 308 E Second St. N. in Newton.

The panel will present “An Introduction to Atheism: Who we are and common misconceptions about us” followed by a time for questions and answers.

Grzeskowiak is the current president and one of the founding members of Iowa Atheists and Freethinkers. He grew up in a Roman Catholic family and drifted away from religion during his late teens and early 20s. He is a strong advocate of the principal of separation of church and state as it benefits all Americans, both religious and non-religious.

John Fruetel is the current vice-president of Iowa Atheists and Freethinkers. He grew up in a Lutheran home but has been a lifelong atheist. He is a strong advocate of church/state separation and liberal supporter of social issues such as same-sex marriage and women’s reproductive rights.

All are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
