Following an altercation in Newton on Jan. 8, a Brooklyn woman has been charged in connection with a reported stabbing.

At 11:59 p.m., the Newton police were called to 1301 W. 16th St. S. in reference to a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, police found that a 16-year-old Newton female had been stabbed with a knife during an altercation with another female.

The teenager’s injuries were not life-threatening, and she was transported to the Skiff emergency room for treatment.

The suspect, later identified as Jennifer Lynn Lott, 45, of Brooklyn, already had left the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement. Just hours later, at 5:49 a.m. Jan. 9, the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Newton Police Department and advised they had located Lott near Brooklyn.

Lott was transported to the Poweshiek County Jail and was later transported to the Jasper County Jail. She was charged with willful injury and assault with a dangerous weapon.
