Newton Police Lieutenant endorses Halferty

To the editor:

I would like to express my appreciation to Sheriff Mike Balmer for his years of service and dedication to the citizens of Jasper County. Sheriff Balmer played a large role in getting my career started. He gave me the opportunity to serve as a Jasper County Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy and displayed the professionalism I strove to achieve.

When I learned of Sheriff Mike Balmer’s retirement there was no question that Chief Deputy John Halferty is the most qualified to be the next Sheriff. I’ve had the privilege to work with John over the past 20 years; six of those years with the Newton Police Department and last 14 working cooperatively at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

Whether it is coordinating the law enforcement contingent for the Iowa Speedway or planning and conducting high risk search warrants, John has always stepped up with leadership and professionalism in performing his duties. Not only is John an outstanding administrator he is also a great motivator. His communication skills and rapport with others has created great partnerships with other agencies in the county and state.

These partnerships will prove valuable as Sheriff of Jasper County.

Throughout my career I have worked with numerous individuals of high integrity and unwavering values; having said that I would put John at the top of that list.

John is someone of strong beliefs and honesty. He can be trusted to make sound decisions in his personal life as well as his professional.

Over the 20 years I have known John, he has never wavered in his convictions or dedication to the citizens of Jasper County. Please join me in voting for John Halferty for Jasper County Sheriff.
