Newton’s Woodrow Wilson and Thomas Jefferson Elementray School Parent-Teacher Associations are hosting the first-ever “Run Into Fall” cross country fun run in Maytag Park this Saturday, Nov. 3 at 9 a.m.
The events include a one-mile fun run/walk and a three- to four-mile adventure run. The one-mile run is completely within Maytag Park and includes going over hay bales and traveling through the park in ways most people rarely do.
The three to four-mile run starts and finishes within Maytag Park but also will go “off road” on dirt and grass paths in the adjoining forests and fields to the east. This includes creek crossings, rough terrain, mud and possible wildlife sightings.
It’s a good way to get a little taste of what it’s like to do the popular Living History Farms race — which has an upcoming race Nov. 17 at its location in Urbandale.
Both races Saturday are guaranteed to be fun for all ages. The cost is $18 or those older than 12, and $8 for those 12 and younger. The fee includes a unique T-shirt made possible by several generous sponsors. Multiple door prizes will be given away after the race that all participants are eligible for.
All proceeds go back to Woodrow Wilson and Thomas Jefferson Elementary Schools.
Go to the Newton Community School's website, www.newton.k12.ia.us for a race registration form and return it to the Woodrow Wilson school office by this Friday, Nov. 2 or register on the day of the race.
