Hawks look to win fifth straight on Friday

Sure, the Lynnville-Sully football team was heavily favored in its last three games — all blowout victories — but that doesn't mean those wins should be overlooked.

The Hawks (5-2, 4-1 Class A District 6) more than took care of business in all three, winning by scores of 61-0 over Southeast Warren (0-7), 70-0 over Pleasantville (1-6) and 49-0 over North Mahaska (1-7).
It could be more of the same this week, as Lynnville-Sully plays at English Valleys (2-6). A win would set up a winner-take-all for the district championship against Montezuma (6-1, 5-0) next week in Sully.

Hawks junior Bailee Samson will be looking for his fifth-straight game with at least 100 yards rushing, while fellow junior running back Caden Doll is coming off a four-touchdown performance last week. Samson now has rushed for 808 yards this season on only 80 carries — a 10.1 yards per carry average — with 10 touchdowns.

Mustangs open tough final stretch with last home game

The Prairie City-Monroe football team has played its way into third place in Cass 2A District 6 in the past few weeks, and it will need to stay on its game to hold that position for the final two.
The Mustangs (4-4, 3-1) will host the team directly beneath them in the standings on Friday when Davis County (5-2, 2-2) comes to Monroe for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff and PCM's senior night.

Davis County enters the game with a little extra motivation, considering it isn't quite locked into the postseason like PCM currently is. Should Davis County lose this week and to Collins-Maxwell-Baxter next week, the Raiders could take the fourth spot in the district.

Led by senior Calvin Utt, Davis County brings a potent offense into the game. Utt himself has passed for 1,117 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions while running for an additional 619 and eight touchdowns. Senior running back Colten Roberts is barely in front of him in rushing yards, with 628 and nine touchdowns.

PCM senior quarterback Nate Vande Wall's status is somewhat up in the air for the rest of the season, but junior backup Zach Uhlenhopp did just fine filling in last week with 180 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns.
