Hawks volleyball wins another five-set match

The wins keep coming for the Lynnville-Sully volleyball team, and by the dramatic variety.

The Hawks earned their fourth straight win Monday night — a five-set battle at Montezuma to move to 12-10 overall and 6-2 in the South Iowa Cedar League. It was their sixth-straight dual victory overall, and third straight five-set win. They won by scores of 25-27, 25-13, 25-23, 21-25 and 15-10.

Senior Kelsey Beyer had a huge night, amassing a career-high 28 kills. She had 21 digs and was 16-of-16 serving with seven aces. She is now second in the SICL in kills. Junior Cassie Cullen had 14 kills, eight digs, three solo blocks, three block assists and was 12-of-13 serving with four aces. She currently leads all of Class 1A in ace serves, while Lynnville-Sully is leading 1A for team aces.

Sophomore Shelby Davis had 26 digs, and senior Stacey Sparks had 25. Sparks also was 11-of-13 serving with two aces. Junior Jade Van Rees had 42 assists on the night and is now the SICL leader. She added 12 digs. Sophomore Taylor VanderLeest was on fire from the line, going 26-of-26 serving with 12 aces.
