Cardinals host volleyball tournament Saturday

The Newton volleyball team held its home tournament over the weekend on Saturday, and earned some solid results. The Cards won four of their five matches on the day to improve their record to 18-9 on the season and suffered their lone loss to Class 4A No. 3 Harlan (17-25, 15-25) in the championship match. Newton earned sweeps of Des Moines North (21-7, 21-5), Pella (21-17, 21-18) and Carlisle (21-16, 21-16) and defeated Boone 2-1 (21-25, 28-26, 15-11).
