PCM girls extend streak to four after wins over Rams, Eagles

Mustangs stay unbeaten in Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference play

MONROE — Three players reached double-figures, seven players scored at least three points and every Mustang who entered the game grabbed at least one rebound on Friday during the PCM girls’ basketball team’s most dominant win of the season.

The Mustangs started fast and dominated the second half during a 56-23 win over Greene County in Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference play. The victory included 21 offensive rebounds.

PCM won the game despite shooting only 33 percent from the floor and committing 18 turnovers. The Mustangs did make seven 3-pointers and grabbed 49 rebounds.

Addison Steenhoek

Lila Milani scored a career-high 15 points and added four rebounds and two assists, Addison Steenhoek tallied 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals and Tori Lindsay posted 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Jorja Teeter added four points and eight rebounds, Rebecca De Vries chipped in four points and six boards and Claire VanWyk grabbed eight rebounds and swiped two steals.

Elle Davis scored five points and Emilyn Davis dished out two assists.

Kenna Grier, Addy Covington and Lilly Knapp all made their varsity debuts. Grier finished with three points and two boards and Covington and Knapp pulled down two rebounds.

The Mustangs (4-1, 2-0 in the HOIAC) were 7-of-22 from 3-point range and made 7-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Greene County (0-4, 0-1) was held to single-digit points in all four quarters.

PCM 49, Saydel 26

DES MOINES — The Mustangs continued to ride their defense on Saturday during their LHC game against Saydel at Wells Fargo Arena.

PCM held its fourth straight opponent under 40 points and Lindsay led the way on offense during a 49-26 victory.

No opponent has scored more than 44 points against PCM so far this season. The Mustangs limited the Eagles to 20 percent shooting and forced 29 turnovers.

PCM led 14-7 after one and outscored Saydel 19-7 in the second and 5-0 in the fourth.

Lindsay led the way with a game-high 17 points and she added four rebounds, two assists and six steals.

Milani tallied 12 points, two rebounds and two steals, De Vries pulled down nine boards and VanWyk chipped in four points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Steenhoek scored five points and swiped two steals but her minutes were limited after she suffered an ankle injury. PCM head girls basketball coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez does not expect her to miss any extra time.

Elle Davis had four points and five rebounds, Teeter finished with four rebounds and three assists, Knapp grabbed four boards and Emilyn Davis corralled three rebounds.

PCM shot 30 percent from the floor, made 7-of-26 from 3 and connected on 6-of-13 from the foul line. The Mustangs turned the ball over 18 times but came up with 17 steals at the other end.

Paige Rummans led Saydel (2-2, 0-2) with 11 points, 19 rebounds and five steals. The Eagles were 0-of-14 from 3 and 6-of-16 from the foul line.
