SULLY — JD Richards registered his first career varsity pitching win and had two hits at the plate to lead the Lynnville-Sully baseball team to a 7-1 win over Belle Plaine on Friday.
The Class 1A No. 8 Hawks stayed unbeaten after plating six of their seven runs in the first three frames of the South Iowa Cedar League contest.

It was Lynnville-Sully’s fifth straight win over the Plainsmen. The Hawks out-hit Belle Plaine 6-4, and the visitors committed four errors.
Richards led the Hawks (9-0, 7-0 in the SICL) with two hits, one run, one walk and two steals at the plate. He now leads the team with 11 steals and is tied for the team lead with 15 runs this summer.
Terran Gosselink produced one hit, one run and one RBI and he was hit by one pitch, Carson Maston doubled and scored one run and Jack Bowlin tallied one hit and one run.
Gavin Olea got the other hit, Lannon Montgomery and Ethan Dunsbergen both registered two RBIs, Brody Borg walked once, scored one run and was hit by one pitch and Matthew Mintle walked once, scored one run and had one RBI. Connor Deal also scored one run.
Richards got his first varsity win after allowing no earned runs, three hits and two walks in five innings. He also struck out six.
Gosselink tossed two innings and surrendered one earned run on two walks and one hit batter in two innings. It was his first pitching appearance this season.
Wade Sankot had one hit and one walk at the plate and was the losing pitcher for Belle Plaine (2-3, 2-2), while Ty Alcott produced one hit and one run and he was hit by one pitch.

Lynnville-Sully 10, Keota 1
KEOTA — The Hawks needed a small rally to down Keota on Thursday during an SICL road contest.
Lynnville-Sully trailed 1-0 after three innings but plated 10 runs in the final four frames to win 10-1 over the Eagles.
Bowlin and Trace Carlson combined to toss a no-hitter as the Hawks had a 7-0 advantage in hits.
Keota (2-4, 1-4) scored its only run in the third off Carlson, who allowed one unearned run on two walks in three innings. He struck out two.
Bowlin (2-0) tossed the final four innings and earned the win after surrendering no runs, no hits, two walks and one hit batter while striking out six.
Bowlin also had two hits at the plate. He doubled, had three RBIs and stole one base and Richards tallied one hit, two runs, one RBI, two walks and one steal.
Montgomery homered and had three RBIs, Maston posted one hit, one run, one RBI and two walks and Olea chipped in one hit, two runs, one RBI and two walks.

Olea leads the Hawks with nine walks and Montgomery has a team-best 15 RBIs.
Mintle walked once, scored one run and stole two bases and he was hit by a pitch, Gosselink tallied one hit and one run, Deal walked once and scored one run, Borg finished with one RBI and Gavin Fisk scored one run.
The Hawks, who have defeated Keota six straight times, scored three runs in the fourth to take the lead for good and then plated five in the fifth and one in both the sixth and seventh.
Lynnville-Sully 5, Iowa Valley 1
SULLY — Maston struck out 11 batters over seven innings and Richards, Montgomery and Gosselink all had two hits at the plate to lead Lynnville-Sully to a 5-1 win over Iowa Valley on Wednesday.
The Hawks scored two runs in the first and never trailed the SICL contest. They out-hit the Tigers 7-3 to overcome three errors.
L-S improved to 13-12 against Iowa Valley since 2009, but the Hawks have won six straight games in the series. This year’s four-run difference was the closest result in four years though.

Richards finished with two hits, two runs and three steals, Montgomery tallied two hits, two walks, two runs and one steal and Gosselink posted two hits and three RBIs.
Maston walked twice, scored one run and had one RBI, Olea walked twice, Borg had one hit and one walk and Fisk scored one run. Borg leads the Hawks with a batting average of .467.
Dunsbergen and Wyatt Mathis each walked once and Colton Alberts stole one base.
Maston stayed unbeaten on the mound after allowing no earned runs on three hits. He struck out 11 in seven innings.
Maston is now 4-0 with an earned run average of .30. He has 44 strikeouts in 23 innings.
Layne Peska doubled and scored one run for Iowa Valley (3-4, 2-3) to lead the Tigers.
Nolan Kriegel took the pitching loss after allowing three earned runs on seven hits and five walks in five innings.

Lynnville-Sully 16, HLV/TC 1
SULLY — Olea picked up his first career varsity pitching win and Borg finished with three hits for Lynnville-Sully in its 16-1 rout of HLV/TC on Monday.
The Hawks plated all 16 runs in the third inning to end the game after four. They out-hit the Warriors 11-1 and neither team committed an error.
It was Lynnville-Sully’s seventh straight win over HLV/TC. The closest game during that stretch was 10-3.
Borg doubled, scored two runs and had one RBI, while Olea finished with two hits and two RBIs to lead the Hawks’ offense.
Richards, Maston, Gosselink, Mathis, Deal and Mintle all had one hit each.
Richards added two runs, two RBIs, one walk and one steal and he was hit by a pitch.
Maston homered, scored two runs, registered three RBIs and walked once and he was hit by a pitch.

Gosselink tripled and had three RBIs and he was hit by two pitches. He leads L-S with five hit by pitches.
Deal tripled and finished with one run and three RBIs, Mathis scored two runs and was hit by a pitch and Mintle scored one run and was hit by a pitch. Mintle is tied with Gosselink for the team lead in hit by pitches with five.
Montgomery walked once and scored two runs and was hit by one pitch and Dunsbergen and Alberts each scored two runs and stole one base.
Olea (1-0) went the distance on the mound to get his first career varsity win. He allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks in four innings and struck out six.
Levi Molyneaux walked once and scored one run to lead HLV/TC (3-3, 3-3) and Bryer Jack had the team’s only hit.
Lynnville-Sully 9, North Mahaska 4
NEW SHARON — Lynnville-Sully scored three runs in the first and never trailed during a 9-4 road win over North Mahaska on May 28.
Montgomery, Bowlin, Mathis and Mintle all had two hits to lead the Hawks to the SICL win and Maston struck out 11 over six innings to earn the pitching win.

Lynnville-Sully scored three runs in the first and plated two in the second and third. North Mahaska scored all four of its runs in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.
Montgomery doubled, scored two runs, walked twice and had one RBI, Bowlin doubled and tallied two RBIs and Mintle scored two runs and walked twice.
Mathis scored one run, Dunsbergen had one hit, one run and one walk and Olea walked twice, scored one run and totaled one RBI.
Gosselink walked twice and had one RBI, Maston was hit by a pitch and totaled one RBI, Richards drove in one run and Alberts and Fisk both scored one run.
Maston surrendered one earned run on one hit with 11 strikeouts in six innings.
Montgomery allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk but did not register an out and Richards struck out three in the seventh to end the game. Richards did not allow a run or a hit.
Dan Vane Mersbergen led North Mahaska (4-5, 4-2) with one hit, one run and two RBIs.
North Mahaska leads Lynnville-Sully 19-17 since 2009, but the Hawks have won 11 straight in the series.

Lynnville-Sully 15, Montezuma 4
MONTEZUMA — The Hawks scored first but needed a rally to down rival Montezuma on May 27.
Lynnville-Sully led 2-0 after two but trailed 4-2 after three before scoring five in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and five in the seventh to win 15-4.
The Hawks, who have defeated Montezuma in eight straight games, were led Montgomery’s two hits, two runs and five RBIs.
Deal added two hits and two runs, Olea had one hit, two walks, three runs and one steal and Bowlin chipped in one hit and two RBIs.
Richards, Maston and Gosselink all had one hit and were hit by one pitch. Richards added two runs and two RBIs, Maston walked once and scored two runs and Gosselink walked twice, stole three bases and had one RBI.
Mintle walked once and had one RBI and he was hit by two pitches, Dunsbergen totaled one hit and one run, Carlson walked once and Alberts, Mathis and Jordan Dunsbergen all scored one run.
Bowlin earned the pitching win after allowing four earned runs on three hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out eight.
Carlson pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief and surrendered one hit and one walk with five strikeouts.
