Tigerhawks down Baxter in non-conference county battle

Colfax-Mingo softball routs L-S, rallies past BGM in SICL play

BAXTER — Nine hits, nine walks, six hit by pitches and 10 steals powered the Colfax-Mingo softball team to a five-inning win over Baxter on Thursday.

The Tigerhawks jumped out in front with a five-run second inning and then added a pair of runs in the third, seven in the fourth and three in the fifth during a 17-3 non-conference road victory.

The Bolts avoided the 12-run mercy rule after four innings following a run in the fourth, but C-M put the game away in the fifth.

Charlotte Donahue started the five-run second frame with a single and then she stole second and third base. Caylee Cunningham, Madison Stackhouse and Trinity Smith all walked.

Donahue eventually scored on a wild pitch and Carley Underwood registered a two-run triple before scoring on a passed ball.

In the third, Cunningham laced an RBI double and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0.

Cunningham doubled and tripled and finished with four runs, one RBI, one walk and one steal and she was hit by a pitch.

Baxter got on the board in the third. Holly Zahurones’ RBI groundout made it 7-1 and then Morgan Hansen and Mandee Selover both reached on bunt singles. Selover eventually scored to make it 7-2.

Selover added an RBI single in the fourth to extend the game to another inning. She finished with two hits, one run, one RBI and one steal to lead the Bolts (0-4).

Underwood and Donahue both had two hits for the Tigerhawks. Underwood tripled, scored two runs, had four RBIs and was hit by a pitch and Donahue added three runs, three steals and one RBI.

Holland Robinette, Stackhouse and Dakota Allen registered the other Tigerhawk hits. Robinette doubled and contributed one RBI and two walks and Stackhouse scored two runs, walked once, stole two bases, was hit by a pitch and contributed an RBI.

Allen added one run, one RBI and one steal and she was hit by two pitches. Abi Rawlins walked twice, scored one run and stole one base, Macie Porter walked once, scored one run and stole two bases and Smith walked twice, scored one run and was hit by a pitch. Brooklyn Yanske scored one run.

The Tigerhawks out-hit the Bolts 9-2 and Baxter committed four errors.

Rawlins (3-2) earned the pitching win as she surrendered no earned runs on one hit and she struck out two, walked one and hit one batter in three innings.

Allen tossed the final two frames and allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out two, walked one and hit one batter.

Baxter’s Karlee Koehler was hit by two pitches, Caydence Sulzle and Zahurones both walked once, Kendall Brummel tallied one hit and Camden Moffit scored one run. Zahurones took the pitching loss.

Colfax-Mingo 6, BGM 3

COLFAX — A five-run fifth inning pulled the Tigerhawks away from BGM for good and Colfax-Mingo ended its first week of the season with a 6-3 home victory on Friday.

Both teams scored one run in the first and the Bears added single runs in the fifth and seventh frames. Each team committed two errors and the Tigerhawks (3-2 overall, 2-1 in the conference) out-hit the Bears 7-3 during the South Iowa Cedar League contest.

Cunningham led the Tigerhawk offense with two hits and one steal. Underwood, Rawlins, Robinette, Donahue and Olivia Rausch all finished with one hit.

Underwood scored one run, totaled one RBI and stole one base, Rawlins doubled, walked once, had one RBI and stole one base and Robinette doubled, drove in two runs and scored one.

Donahue registered an RBI and stole a base, Rausch tripled and scored one run, Stackhouse walked once, Allen scored one run and Kaylee Collins swiped one base.

Rawlins earned the pitching win after allowing two earned runs on two hits with one strikeout, four walks and two hit batters in seven innings.

Ryanne Van Dee led BGM (2-2, 1-2) with one hit, two runs, one walk, one hit by a pitch and two steals.

Colfax-Mingo 17, Lynnville-Sully 5, 4 innings

COLFAX — A fast start powered the Tigerhawks in their season opener against Lynnville-Sully on May 22.

The Hawks went in front 3-2 in the second, but Colfax-Mingo plated five runs in the bottom of the second and eight in the third to pull away during a 17-5 home victory in SICL play.

Greenlee Smock hit two solo homers, but the Hawks (1-5, 1-2) committed 11 errors in the four-inning loss.

Stackhouse, Collins and Allen all had two hits for Colfax-Mingo. Collins and Rawlins each collected three RBIs, Stackhouse and Collins scored three runs and Allen, Rawlins, Donahue and Underwood all scored two runs.

Stackhouse doubled and stole one base, Rausch contributed one hit, one run, two RBIs and one steal and Underwood, Rawlins, Robinette, Donahue and Cunningham had the other hits. C-M out-hit L-S 12-5.

Allen totaled two RBIs, Collins, Underwood, Donahue and Rawlins all walked once, Cunningham doubled and scored one run and Robinette scored one run and tallied one RBI.

Rawlins earned the win in the circle after allowing five runs — two earned — on four hits in four innings. She walked seven, struck out three and hit one batter.

Montezuma 6, Colfax-Mingo 2

MONTEZUMA — The Tigerhawks were limited to five hits and committed three errors during a 6-2 loss to Montezuma in SICL play on Wednesday.

Colfax-Mingo trailed 6-0 after four and scored its only two runs in its final at-bat.

Donahue totaled two of the Tigerhawks’ five hits and she scored one run and stole one base.

The other hits came from Robinette, Cunningham and Stackhouse. Cunningham doubled, scored one run, stole one base and had one RBI and Stackhouse collected one RBI.

Rawlins took the loss in the circle after surrendering six runs — four earned — on eight hits in six innings. She struck out one, walked five and hit one batter.

Montezuma (2-1, 2-1) got two hits each from Madison Van Zee, Kallie Robison, Ellen Cook and Abby Pope. Jadyn Sharer totaled three RBIs and Izzy Roorda walked twice and scored two runs.

Robison also got the win in the circle after allowing two earned runs on five hits in seven innings.

Pella 4, Colfax-Mingo 3

PELLA — A three-run third inning put the Tigerhawks in front, but Pella countered with single runs in its next three at-bats and those were enough to clinch a 4-3 non-conference home win on Tuesday.

The Tigerhawks were limited to three hits in the loss. Underwood and Rausch each had one hit and one run, Rawlins scored one run, had one RBI and stole two bases and Robinette walked twice.

Stackhouse had the other hit and Donahue collected an RBI.

Rawlins took another loss in the circle. She surrendered four runs — two earned — on six hits and struck out two, walked three and hit one batter in six innings.

Kylie Tauke led Pella (3-2) with three hits, two runs and three steals, Katie Scheckel and Elah Hiemstra each totaled two RBIs and Kiki Riggen walked twice.
