Newton’s Walker earns all-state golf honor

Walker averaged 77 for 18 holes this spring, finished third at district tournament

Newton senior Ethan Walker played in the Cardinals’ No. 1 spot on the boys golf team for multiple seasons. He was a big reason Newton advanced to the state tournament as a team this spring.

He was rewarded after the season with an all-state nod from the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association.

Walker was named a second team all-state golfer in Class 3A recently after ranking in the top 15 of two major categories.

Walker’s 18-hole average was a 77, which ranked tied for 13th in 3A. His 18-hole low was a 71, which was tied for 11th in 3A.

Walker played 12 18-hole rounds this spring. Newton did not play any nine-hole rounds.

At this year’s 3A district tournament, Walker finished third with a 74. He tied for second at the sectional meet with a 75 and also tied for third at the Little Hawkeye Conference tournament with a 77.
