Pella sweeps Cardinals at home

Newton and Oskaloosa were tied at 3-all after six singles matches on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, the Cardinals couldn’t seal the deal on Senior Night and lost to the Indians 6-5 at Aurora Heights Park during Little Hawkeye Conference play.

Maggie Garrett improved to 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Ella Swarts was part of two wins. But a 2-3 performance in doubles allowed Oskaloosa to sneak home with the victory.

Lauryn Garrett won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Maggie Garrett scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. Swarts won her No. 5 singles match 6-3, 6-1.

One of the doubles’ wins came in the No. 3 position as Swarts and Olivia Hotchkin registered a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Roxanne Almazon and Avery Potter won 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) at No. 4 doubles, but Oskaloosa won both three-set matches in singles and did enough in doubles to pull out the team win.
