SIGOURNEY — Baxter’s wrestling team picked up a pair of wins in its season-opening duals on Thursday.
The Bolts downed Montezuma 58-24 and edged Cardinal 42-39 but also lost to WACO and host Sigourney-Keota. They lost to WACO 42-39 and were defeated 60-24 by the Cobras.
Cole Smith and Curtis Gliem both were 4-0 and Aiden McFadden and Michael Wilhelm each began their seasons 3-1.
Baxter was given nine forfeit wins in the victory over Montezuma. McFadden won his match at heavyweight 21-8 and Alex Dille (113), Zoey Gliem (120), Smith (126), Jack Anderson (132), Ty Bauman (138), Curtis Gliem (145), Jacob Hiemstra (152), Wilhelm (170) and Grant Andregg (220) all won by forfeit.
In the win over Cardinal, Dille and Hiemstra both took forfeits. Smith, Bauman, Curtis Gliem and Willhelm all won by fall.
In the narrow loss to WACO, Smith, Anderson, Curtis Gliem, Zoey Gliem and Callyn Bishop (160) all won by fall. Hope Good took a forfeit at 182.
The Bolts got just four wins in the loss to S-K. Smith, Curtis Gliem and Wilhelm all won by fall and McFadden took a forfeit.
Smith’s three wins by fall came in 33 seconds, 21 seconds and 33 seconds.
Dille, Zoey Gliem, Anderson, Bauman and Hiemstra all finished the night 2-2.
