Four Bolts claim all-conference baseball honors

Heer leads way as first team outfielder

Junior Rory Heer did not have enough plate appearances to qualify for the Iowa Star Conference South Division top 10 in on-base percentage.

But the Bolts’ outfielder got on base nearly 60 percent of the time during conference games this season.

Heer also ranked third in the league in batting average and was second in steals, which helped him earn first team all-conference honors this summer.

Four Bolts claimed all-conference recognition as sophomores Cody Damman and Jake Travis were both second-team selections and senior Andrew Klemme was an honorable mention pick.

All-conference selections are based on statistics inside conference play only.

Heer, a first-team outfielder, batted .500 and had an OBP of .590. He scored 11 runs, had one double, finished with six RBIs, walked six times and was hit by one pitch. He also stole 16 bases and committed two errors.

Damman, a second-team catcher, batted .310 and had an OBP of .463. His 13 runs scored ranked tied for ninth and his seven hit by pitches ranked second. He also had three doubles, six RBIs, five walks and six steals.

Damman was the only player in the conference who did not commit an error among players who had at least 26 chances.

Travis, a second-team outfielder, ranked tied for sixth with a batting average of .429 and his .512 OBP ranked seventh. He also scored eight runs, collected four doubles, tallied nine RBIs, stole four bases, drew four walks and was hit by two pitches. His fielding percentage was .950 after committing just one error.

Klemme was one of the team’s conference pitchers. He was 2-2 on the conference season with an earned run average of 6.27. He struck out 26, walked 24 and hit six in 25 2/3 innings.
