Baxter softball rallies past Colo-NESCO

Bolts baseball team struggles early, loses to Royals

BAXTER — A nine-run seventh inning propelled Baxter’s softball team to a home win over Colo-NESCO on Monday during Iowa Star Conference South Division action.

The Bolts trailed 8-2 after six innings and were down 10-2 heading into their final at-bat but the nine-run seventh pushed Baxter to an 11-10 walk-off victory.

The game featured 21 runs, 21 hits and 18 errors.

Mandee Selover, Maddie Pierce and Corryn Padget all had two hits in the win. Padget added two runs and two RBIs, Selover tallied two RBIs, one run and one steal and Pierce scored two runs and added an RBI.

Allison Colyn, Evelyn Boothroyd and Allyson Padget all had one hit and one run. Allyson Padget also stole a base. Lilie Vansice doubled, scored a run and tallied one RBI.

Emie Tuhn walked once, was hit by a pitch and scored one run.

Holly Zahurones had one hit and three RBIs and Lydia Pierce scored a run.

Kinley Bethards started and pitched six innings, allowing 10 runs — two earned — on eight hits with three strikeouts and six walks.

Zahurones got her first career pitching win after allowing no runs on no hits with one strikeout and one walk in the seventh inning.

Jenna Hill tallied three hits, three runs and four steals to lead the Royals (5-4 overall, 3-3 in the conference). Callie Kohlwes added three hits, two runs and two RBIs. The Royals stole 12 bases.

Baxter (4-5, 4-2) won the game despite committing eight errors. The Royals had 10 errors.

BASEBALL

Colo-NESCO 15, Baxter 6

The Bolts couldn’t overcome a nine-run first inning by the Royals during a 15-6 home loss in Iowa Star Conference South Division action on Monday.

Baxter scored two runs each in the first and last innings but couldn’t score enough in the middle frames to overcome the slow start.

The Bolts finished with eight hits, two hit by pitches and six walks.

Rory Heer led Baxter (1-8, 1-4) with two hits, two runs, one RBI, one hit by pitch and two steals. Cody Damman tallied two hits, one RBI and one steal, Jake Travis doubled and tripled and scored a run and Ben Richardson had one hit, walked twice and stole two bases.

Cael Shepley walked twice and scored a run, Logan Jones walked and scored a run, Perrin Sulzie added one hit and Carter Smith scored a run. Jalen Porter was hit by a pitch and Andrew Klemme drew a walk.

Brad Matthews pitched five innings on the mound. He allowed three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

Nate McMinamen pitched one inning and allowed three earned runs on two hits with one strikeout and two walks.

Klemme allowed four earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks in 2/3 innings. Richardson got one out and walked one.

Ben Rouse led the Royals (5-4, 4-3) with two hits, four runs, two RBIs and three walks.
