Sigourney downs L-S golfers

Greenlee Smock wins medalist honors with a career-best 37

LYNNVILLE — Greenlee Smock carded the lowest score of her young career and Lynnville-Sully’s boys golf team tallied its second best score of the spring but Sigourney swept the Hawks in the team competition at Diamond Trail Golf Club on Friday.

Smock shot a career-best 37 to win medalist in the girls’ dual, but Sigourney shot 209 to win. L-S was one golfer short of having a team score.

“On arguably a day where we had the best weather we’ve had all season the Hawks managed to put up some great scores,” L-S golf coach Jeff Knouse said. “With conference looming, we’ve got lots to celebrate but lots to work on this week.”

In the boys’ battle, Sigourney defeated L-S 168-196. The Savages had four scores in the 40s and Josh Mohr shot a 37 to win medalist honors. Clay Morse was the runner-up medalist.

Keegan DeWitt led the Hawks with a 44, while Max Mintle (46), C.J. Nikkel (51) and Carsten James (55) had the other counting scores. Deven Liekweg (56) and Luke Kramer (56) turned in non-counting scores.

Smock led the Hawk girls. Brooke Maston turned in a career-best 54 and Dakota Bokhoven carded a 71. Sigourney’s Maddie Hornback (45) was the runner-up medalist.
