Newton bowlers dominate Pella

Newton’s bowling teams cruised past Pella on Saturday at Cardinal Lanes.

Abby Price and Bailey Hansen led the Cardinal girls to a 428-pin win over the Dutch, while Dallas King and Ben Zeien led the boys to a 380-pin victory.

In the girls’ competition, Newton won 2,121 to 1,693. The boys defeated Pella 2,576 to 2,196. Newton’s girls won the Baker games 637 to 526, while the boys dominated the Baker games 928 to 773.

Price, Hansen, Sydni Followill and Libbie Keith had the top four scores in the girls’ competition.

Price won the meet with a 344 as she rolled a 184 and a 160. Hansen also eclipsed 300 with a 309 after rolling a 183 and a 126.

Followill rolled a 293 series after turning in a 113 and a 180. Keith had scores of 127 and 150 for a 277 series.

Jenna Miller’s 262 tied Pella’s Anna DeNooy for fifth. Miller rolled a 149 and a 113. Genessa Slings’ 261 tied for seventh. She had a 140 and a 121.

Kaitlyn Gifford led the Cardinal JV team with a 254. Pella did not have a girls’ JV team.

King was the top overall bowler in the boys’ battle. He had a 383 series after rolling single games of 190 and 193. Zeien was second overall with a 373 series after rolling a 194 and a 179.

Thomas Hodnett finished fourth with a 323 series. He had single games of 153 and 170. Logan Bown had games of 134 and 160 for a 294 series, Owen Guldberg had a 134 and a 141 for a 275 series and Evan Benac had a 265 series after games of 135 and 130.

Pella’s Jayden Divelboss was third overall with a 340. Nathan Grandia finished fifth with a 320.

The Newton JV boys downed Pella 1,885 to 1,721. Owen Muhs led the Cardinals with a 301, while Tyler Padgett and David Holmes both had a 274 series.
