NCMP swimmers place fourth at Fort Dodge

Dydell gives Cardinals lone win at Rusty Garst Invitational

FORT DODGE — Jaden Dydell got the lone win, the Cardinals had eight top-five finishes and NCMP’s boys’ swim team finished fourth at the Rusty Garst Invitational on Saturday.

The Cardinals, who recorded 13 season-best times, scored 318 points in the team race. Sioux City’s Spartans won the meet with 523 points, while Carroll (400) and Decorah (391) completed the top three.

NCMP was better than Waterloo United (189), Spencer (153) and host Fort Dodge (141).

Dydell’s win came in the 100-yard breaststroke. He finished first easily in 1 minute, 2.22 seconds.

Dydell also was fourth in the 50 freestyle in 22.76 seconds. One full second separated the top four swimmers.

The next best finish came in the 200 medley relay. The Cardinals’ foursome of Henry Jensen, Dydell, Eli Eekhoff and Jordan Henderson placed third in 1:48.65.

The 200 freestyle relay was fourth. That group included Jackson Mace-Maynard, Clay Lamb, Henderson and Eekhoff and they hit the wall in 1:40.57.

Other fourth-place finishes came from Jensen in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle and Eekhoff in the 100 freestyle.

Jensen’s 200 IM time was clocked at 2:13.62 and he was fourth in the 500 freestyle in 5:25.42.

Eekhoff’s time of 55.44 put him fourth in the 100 freestyle. Henderson was sixth in a season-best 56.36.

The final top-five finish came in the 400 freestyle relay. The foursome of Lamb, Eekhoff, Jensen and Dydell placed fifth in 3:41.54.

Lamb was sixth in the 100 butterfly. He finished the race in a season-best 1:01.78. Jackson Mace-Maynard was ninth in the event with a season-best time of 1:04.78.

Devin Lamb finished eighth in the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 2:08.33. Landon Heisdorffer ended up ninth in the event with a season-best time of 2:18.36.

Devin Lamb’s 5:54.36 in the 500 freestyle also was a season-best time. He placed 10th. Heisdorffer finished 13th and his time of 6:06.07 was a lifetime-best by 19 seconds.

Mace-Maynard also placed 10th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:11.66. Brady Comer had two season-best times, finishing ninth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.11 and 14th in the 100 freestyle in 1:06.22.

NCMP competes in the Little Hawkeye Conference meet at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday in Indianola.
