Sixth-ranked Montezuma ends L-S boys’ hoops season

Hawks finished season 13-9

MONTEZUMA — With just two seniors on the roster, Lynnville-Sully’s boys’ basketball future is bright.

The Hawks just ran into one of the best Class 1A teams in the state on Thursday night and L-S was eliminated by sixth-ranked Montezuma 62-36 during District 11 semifinal action.

The Braves led by 10 after one quarter and outscored the Hawks 19-9 in the second frame.

Preston Rodibaugh was the only L-S player in double-figures as he scored 15 points and grabbed three rebounds.

Klayton Van Dyke had six points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks, Ryan Annee had four points and six boards and Corder Noun Harder chipped in four points and four assists.

Mason Jansen finished with four points and three boards and Conner Maston had three points and three rebounds.

The Hawks (13-9) were 5-of-18 from 3-point range and made 31 percent of their shots from the floor.

Montezuma (20-2) hit 10 3-pointers and committed just two turnovers. Four players scored in double-figures with Eddie Burgess leading the team with 14 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.

Cole Watts had 15 points, six rebounds and four assists and Trey Shearer added 14 points and four boards.
