Education, diligence, and prayer have all played a part in Newton Village's handling of the coronavirus pandemic. "We've been fortunate that we haven't experienced an outbreak during this pandemic," said Angela Adam, MHA, LNHA, and Executive Director of Newton Village. "We continue to increase our staffing levels to help keep it this way." Here are 3 reasons why Newton Village has remained Covid-free during the pandemic:
1. Addition of a Resident Concierge. "This position covers tasks like door screening, making internal deliveries, and spending time with residents individually," explained Adam. "We adhere to strict guidelines to keep residents and employees safe. Frequent communication of gratitude from residents and their families reinforces our efforts. We also have excellent home office support, and our team has been proactive in infection control, well-being enhancement, and mutual support."
2. Ongoing education regarding official recommendations. "We closely follow developments by the CDC, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Department of Inspections and Appeals, the state and local Departments of Public Health, and the Iowa Governor," said Adam. "We also have frequent interaction with our Cassia home office and our internal infection control team. All staff wears surgical masks and face shields, and we routinely utilize appropriate hand hygiene at all times. Staff disinfects frequently touched areas multiple times per day, and staff are asked to follow CDC guidelines while not at work."
3. Residents and staff have multiple options for enhancing mental and physical health. "Connecting residents with loved ones in a safe manner keeps our community active and filled with hope," said Adam. "We also offer spiritual support, numerous activities (including the new all-ability bike), and an employee assistance program."
"Our values include Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Innovation, Stewardship, Unity, Respect and Collaboration," added Adam. "I see daily examples of employees embracing our “ I am Cassia” way of living out our values and mission. The name Cassia means 'servant ’ s heart', which is symbolized by our team ’ s character."
