3 Benefits of Choosing an Independent Living Facility

SPONSORED

Independent living offers a wide variety of benefits for seniors.  These age-restricted communities typically offer housing opportunities for anyone age 55 or better, with assisted living, memory care, or skilled nursing potentially available if desired.  Here are 3 benefits of choosing an independent living facility:

1.  Residents enjoy freedom from the hassles of home maintenance, as the services and amenities are designed to offer convenience and ease of living.  "At Newton Village, potential residents are very interested in the services we offer," said Angela Adam, Executive Director for Newton Village.  "We feature a private dining room, a sidewalk cafe, an exercise room, a library/computer room, and a beauty/barber shop. We have a full-time pastor available for residents, families and staff. Pastor Bob also conducts Bible studies and church services."  Newton Village also offers locked mailboxes, trash chutes on each floor, a heated underground garage, and a car-washing bay.  Meals are home-cooked, and a van can be scheduled for transportation to doctor appointments.

2.  Not all independent living facilities require that residents buy in.  "At Newton Village, residents rent their apartment," added Adam.  "Our 1- and 2-bdrm apartment homes are beautifully designed, with full kitchens, individually-controlled heating and air conditioning, Senior (cable) TV, and handicap accessibility.  All utilities are paid by Newton Village except for the phone, and we offer a personal pendant with a 24-hour emergency call system."

3.  Residents lead active and social lives.  With independent living, residents have a wide variety of opportunities for outings, parties, and other get-togethers.  "Our residents enjoy exercise classes, cookouts, and visiting with other tenants," said Adam.  "Newton Village is a smaller community that is very comfortable, just like home.  We're located near the hospital, downtown Newton, and the grocery.  We have a 14-passenger bus that goes to the stores periodically, and it also takes residents to museums, plays, and on holiday light tours, among other activities."
