Monroe resident shares green thumb results

Jen Smith, a second-year DMACC Horticulture student who lives in Monroe, holds a Christmas mouse poinsettia Nov. 30 during the DMACC Horticulture Club’s Annual Poinsettia Sale on the DMACC Ankeny Campus. Smith said the Christmas mouse variety is her favorite kind of poinsettia because it reminds her of her 13-year-old daughter, Melanie, whose nickname happens to be “Mouse.”

The DMACC Horticulture Club’s Annual Poinsettia Sale featured poinsettias grown exclusively by students in this fall’s Greenhouse Production I class on the DMACC Ankeny Campus. Students began growing the plants in late August.
