Reading Colors Your World

Summer reading program underway at Monroe Public Library

After a year of no group activities, pick-up kits and long-distance reading, the summer reading program is back at the Monroe Public Library and it is better than ever. Reading Colors Your World celebrates not only digging into books that help paint stories through their vivid descriptions but also kids’ artwork, which is currently on display in the library.

“We’re super excited because we all get to be back together again,” librarian Brenda Tripp-Lanser said.

Running through July 7, the summer reading program isn’t just logging books that have been read. Activities from crafts to live entertainers are planned for the community.

“We have two paid entertainers coming, one is a theatrical storyteller, a puppeteer who sings,” Tripp-Lanser said. “We are also having a bubble station. The kids are going to learn how to create giant bubbles and run around with bubbles with a few other activities.”

There are also art days with different projects to work on, a book giveaway and craft kits. Like years past, Stories Under the Trees is back at 11 a.m. every Monday.

“We are going to have a color war at one of the story times,” Tripp-Lanser said. “It is going to be messy but it is going to be fun. We are celebrating, we’re going to have fun.”

A schedule of events can be found at the library and is available when signing up for the program. The heart of the program, reading, also has fun attached to it for the kids.

“We are also having reading logs going with prizes. When they hit their first milestone they get a zoo pass. Then, we are probably going to have a surprise again at the end of the program,” Tripp-Lanser said.

For a little fun this year, the library is also asking kids to rate the books they read from one to five stars. By doing so, it helps those at the library know if they should recommend the book to others.

“We have lots of activities and we like the kiddos to come and we’ll entertain them when they are here,” Tripp-Lanser said.
