Letter to the Editor: RDS is a virus causing conspiracy theories

I’m writing to respond to several Letters to the Editor published in the Friday, Jan. 6 Newton News. It seems my democratic friends from RDS, (Republican Derangement Syndrome). RDS is a horrific virus causing all manors of conspiracy theories.

John Moore would have you believe Republicans want to burn down our public schools, allow businesses to have free reign on the unsuspecting public, and the city council has sneaky secret agendas.

Linda Wormley thinks some small group of Republican party officials have control over candidates’ health decisions and estate planning. Denny Carpenter ran for re-election, won the primary and won reelection as a Jasper County Supervisor by a very wide margin.

I want to address Fran Henderson’s insinuation that Thad Nearmyer wanted a Special Election so he could be on the ballot.

I volunteered to chair the Republican task force to consider a petition drive to force the Special Election. I then spoke at the Supervisor meeting asking them to schedule the Special Election. I believe this is the right way to do things, voters should make the choices in an open and transparent process.

After extensive consideration concerning time and cost the Republican task force chose not to proceed with the petition drive. Thad Nearmyer would indeed make a fine Jasper County Supervisor, but so would Bev Price, along with several others that expressed an interest.

Jasper County, like much of Iowa, has elected Republican officials. This has caused the RDS virus to become almost epidemic with my democratic friends. The therapeutic prescription for this insidious Virus is to take a deep breath and work hard for your preferred candidate next time around.
