Letter to the Editor: League is a nonpartisan organization

I have been a part of the Jasper County League of Women Voters for more than 30 years.

We are a non-partisan organization. Therefore, I have never held an office, when I was invited to do so. I couldn’t hold an office because I chose to be active in Jasper County Democratic Party. Officers do not even have political signs in their yards.

Mr. Nearmyer is sadly misinformed. The evening in question, I was asked to volunteer to pick up the questions and put them in some categorical order. Jane Odland was the League member that reviewed them and handed them to the moderator. I had absolutely no intention or ever did any “selection” of the submitted questions. To suggest otherwise is offensive.

When I joined League, Geneva Trost was chair of League, followed by Joan Schnobelen, Ruth Van Note, Geneva again, Barb Taylor, all Republicans, all friends of mine. Since I joined League we have had 12 Republican Chairpersons and nine Democrats, and four who were not active in their party.

If this doesn’t show nonpartisan organization, what will?
