Patricia A. Deaton

Patricia A. Deaton passed away on November 18, 2022 in hospice care at Newton Healthcare Center. There will be no services planned until spring at which time there will be a graveside service for she and dad.

Patricia was born on February 7, 1929 in the front bedroom of her parents’ home on “Jontz hill” in Jasper Co., lA. The daughter of Bert E. and Maude M. Jontz, she graduated from high school in Newton, lA in 1947.

On May 31, 1947 she was united in marriage with Herman L. Deaton. She was employed in pre-children days at the telephone company and then stayed home until her children, Mike and Nancy, were in high school and junior high school respectively.

She then worked at the local dry cleaners until she left there to work at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office until retiring in 1991.

She loved being with family and friends and loved to read. Pat had a wonderful sense of humor and would pop off with unexpected, hilarious one-liners.

Pat is survived by her son, Michael N. Deaton, (Jana); granddaughter Brette Deaton; daughter, Nancy L. Deaton Dunsbergen and loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, her parents, her brother Larry Jontz and sister Cheryl Springer.
