Gladys J. Burnham, 96, of Lockridge passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at her home.
Gladys was born on August 25, 1925 in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Lena M. (Iske) Jess. She was united in marriage to Doyle L. Burnham on April 19, 1946 at Newton. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1997. Gladys was a very active lady. She was the postal clerk at the Lockridge Post Office, served as city clerk of Lockridge, was on the Lockridge Cemetery Board and was the manager of the Lockridge Senior Citizens Center. She also worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, ITC and the Raid Quarries. She was a lifetime member of the First Augustana Lutheran Church of Lockridge and the LCW of the church. She loved to travel with the Heritage Group and with her family. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, embroidery and attending sporting and community events.
She is survived by her children, Saundra Ensminger, Jack (Susan) Burnham, Deb Peiffer and Mark (Connie) Burnham all of Lockridge, her grandchildren, Staci, Thomas, Cynthia, Jack, Jr., Diana, Julie, Ronald, Amanda, Kyle and Drew, 28 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren, a nephew, Larry (Golda) Duffner that Gladys and Doyle raised, along with several other nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the First Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge with Rev. Jerleen Schlesser officiating. Burial will follow in the Lockridge Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 6 to 7:30 that evening. Memorials may be directed to the First Augustana Lutheran Church or to the Lockridge Cemetery in her memory.
