Ronald G. Green, 72, of Newton died on Thursday, January 20, 2022, due to a kidney ailment at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A celebration of life in honor of Ron will be held at the Elks Lodge on Saturday, February 5, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. All wishing to reminisce and become reacquainted are welcome. Memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital may be left at the celebration of life or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Ron, the son of Russell and Dorothy (Sodak) Green, was born on March 25, 1949 in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1967 where he was active in sports and elected to Delt. Ron pursued his higher education at Drake University. He spent most of his career as a Precision Tool Grinder at Cline Tool and Services, retiring in 2016. Ron was united in marriage with Kathleen Shepard on January 25, 1975.
Ron was a lifetime member of the Newton Elks Lodge. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed trivia, Jeopardy, and country music. Ron was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed activities such as golf and bowling, but it was more about spending time with his friends than the sports themselves.
Ron is survived by his wife of almost 47 years, Kathy Green; sister, Marilyn Lamb; brother, Denny Green; mother-in-law, Josephine Shepard; brother-in-law, Charles Shepard; sister-in-law, Karen Gulling; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Charles Shepard; and several close friends.
