Alice L. Schwarz, 94, of Newton, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at Newton Health Care Center. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home.
Alice, the daughter of Olie and Lulua (Janes) Boots, was born May 17, 1927, in Minnesota. As a child her family moved to the Panora area where she would grow up. Following her graduation from Panora High School, Alice taught at a one-room schoolhouse in Dale City. In 1946, Alice was united in marriage with Raymond Moyers in Guthrie County. They made their home in Newton beginning in 1950. Alice sold Avon in Newton for more than 34 years. After Raymond’s death in 1985, Alice was married to Floyd Schwarz in 1990 in Monroe. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Grange, Elks Lodge and the VFW Auxiliary. Alice loved doing crafts. She also enjoyed puzzles, traveling, playing cards and going to flea markets and auctions.
Alice is survived by her children, Marilyn (Harold Paul) Moyers-Anderson of Story City and Mike Moyers of Urbandale; grandchildren, Micah (Jen) Anderson, Mischa Moyers-Anderson, Serana (Matthew) McKee, John Merkley and Thomas Else; her great-grandchildren, Logan and Brooke Anderson and Luci and Victor McKee; and siblings, Bob (Jean) Boots of Atlantic and Lois Guthrie of Stuart. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Raymond Moyers; second husband, Floyd Schwarz; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Moyers; and siblings, Norma Riffel and Jack Boots.
