Doyle Walter Van Der Hart

Doyle Walter Van Der Hart, the son of Walter S. and Ruth (Painter) Van Der Hart, was born June 13, 1931, in Prairie City. He graduated from Monroe High School with the class of 1950. Doyle served in the United States Army in Korea.

On Oct. 5, 1956, Doyle was united in marriage with Opal J. Loynachan in Pleasantville. Doyle worked for the Maytag Company in assembly, retiring in 1984 with 30 years of service. Outside of work, Doyle enjoyed farming and working the land. Doyle and Opal enjoyed wintering in Casa Grande, Ariz., for many years. He was a longtime member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and the Monroe Kiwanis Club.

Doyle died Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Park Centre Garden View in Newton. He was 89 years old. 

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter; a sister in infancy; his brothers, Harold and Donald; and his step-mother, Leola (Strand) Van Der Hart. Those left to honor Doyle’s memory include his wife, Opal Van Der Hart; his son, Mike (Jodi) Van Der Hart; his daughter, Carol (Greg) Ingram; his grandchildren, Travis (Hannah) Van Der Hart, Jessica (Kenny) Halstead, Elijah (Novana) Ingram, Elena Ingram and Isabel Ingram; his six great-granddaughters; his sister, Evelyn Van Dusseldorp; and his brother, Francis (Joyce) Van Der Hart.

A funeral service for Doyle will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home. Facemasks are encouraged. A Facebook broadcast of the service will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the Pence-Reese Funeral Home and Cremation Services Facebook page. A visitation with the family will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8 at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated to the Monroe United Methodist Church and may be left at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
