Compact parking designations have been lifted from the street parking spots along the 100-300 blocks of North Second Avenue East.
Newton City Council on Monday night voted to repeal the “compact-only” parking designation from the area after successfully passing the third consideration of an amended ordinance making changes to street parking. The affected street was recently the subject of downtown streetscape renovations.
Prior to the streetscape improvements, there was diagonal parking put in place. Compact-only parking at the beginning and end of each block was necessary at the time to ensure a safe line of sight and turning radius for traffic. Streetscape improvements extended the curbline, allowing a conversion to parallel parking.
The Traffic Safety Committee recommended the city repeal the compact-only parking ordinance for that particular block.
