Bye-bye, old visitors side bleachers.
Newton Superintendent Tom Messinger said Monday the old bleachers have now been removed from H.A. Lynn Stadium to make way for the new structure. In fall, the Newton Community School District awarded the more than $750,000 project to Caliber Concrete, which will also be building a new press box.
“The removal of the visitors side bleachers is now complete,” Messinger said. “The old concrete footings were removed and the site grading is underway for the new slab at that location. So starting to come nearer to the point where you’ll see the bleachers going up at the football field.”
Feedback from a Newton citizen who wanted to see handrails and better ADA accessibility added to the visitors side bleachers helped kickstart this project. Several discussions later, the Newton School Board eventually approved the new bleachers and press box, which will be ADA accessible.
The visitors side bleachers are being paid with Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) funds and Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) funds.
