The Art of Henna

Tuesday, Aug. 17, 6 p.m.

Learn about the art, uses and history of henna and receive a design from professional henna artist Sarah Norman of Alternative Artistry. Attendees are encouraged to bring an apron or wear clothing that could be stained from the henna dye. Registration opens Aug. 9. Call 641-792-4108 to register. This program is for adults ages 18 and over.

Summer Series Book Club

Wednesday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m.

Find your next favorite novel with our summer book club series. The book club meets on the library lawn and will read the first book in a popular series each month. The August book is, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” Copies of the book can be picked up at the library information desk. Don’t forget to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Teens and adult participants welcome.

Job-Seeker Support Hours

Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2 - 5 p.m.

Work on your resume, edit your cover letter or complete an online application during our job-seeker support hours. An appointment is required to reserve your time slot. Contact public services librarian, Becca Klein at 641-792-4108 to schedule your appointment time.

Borrow a WIFI Hotspot!

Did you know the library loans out WIFI hotspots? Hotspots can be borrowed by Newton residents ages 18 and over with a Newton Public Library card in good standing. Hotspots check out for 7 days and can be renewed up to two times, if nobody else is waiting for one. To borrow a hotspot, visit the library circulation desk with your library card and a photo ID. The Vote is the Emblem of Our Equality

Thursday, Sept. 16, 6 p.m.

August 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote. In this program, historian Kathy Wilson investigates why women had to fight for decades to get the right to vote, why black and minority women were excluded from the national suffrage movement and why we still struggle with women’s rights today.
