Colfax Historical Society

The Nov. 15 Colfax Historical Society meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by president Shawn Cogley and he thanked everyone for attending. Members present were: Karen Russell, Cindy L. Van Dusseldorp, Larry and Charlet Daft, Don and Joyce Jessen, Aaron Bartholmey, Judy Sullivan, Kevin and BJ Williams, Larry Hurto, Peggy Dvorak, John Knutson and Bryan Healy. Minutes of the Oct. 18 meeting were read. Treasurer’s report was presented.

Bryan Healy is interested in researching the history of Dr. Elmer E. Black and his Perpetual Motion gravity motor. He may be willing to put on a program after reading more information that he has obtained from Jasper County Museum.

Rental report was handed out to everyone.

Shawn, Aaron and others will be moving the donated heavy oak table from the Colfax Library Nov. 18 at 11 a.m.

Larry D. has the proposed Facility Use Agreement ready and Aaron will help clean it up.

Shawn is still working on the information from the IDOT about placing a sign by I-80 on the Cogley land. Several examples were passed around for all to see. Shawn will finish it and submit to IDOT.

Peggy, Larry H., Steve and Cindy L. and John and Dawn Knutson helped decorate one of the many Christmas trees at the Jasper County Museum. The trees can be viewed Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5 to 9 pm. Admission is $5.

The Election Day Soup Supper was Nov. 2 in our community room from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Peggy thanked everyone who helped and donated.

Karen reported there are six applicants for the facility manager job. Karen, Kevin and Peggy will be interviewing them Nov. 20.

Cindy L. will be checking with Stuart Patterson to see if we are needed to participate at the Colfax County Christmas Dec. 4 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

John Knutson donated a used microwave, as our old one quit working. We thanked him.

A big thank you to Peggy, Cindy L., Heather and Steve VanDusseldorp, John and Dawn Knutson, Judy, Karen, Larry H. and Bill Hansen and others who made our Election Day Soup Supper a success.

We will be open the second Saturday of the month, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The volunteers will be Kevin and BJ from 10 a.m. to noon and from noon until 2 p.m. will be Don and Joyce. Admission is free.

Next meeting will be Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. It is open to anyone who would like to attend.
