NCMP boys down Boone in season opener

BOONE — Senior Jaden Dydell won two individual races, the Cardinals won four events in all and the Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella boys' swim team downed Boone, 90-78, on the road during the season opener.

"We had a great meet with just one week of practice," NCMP coach Steve Jones said.

Dydell won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.85 seconds and won the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.52. Dydell also was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team.

The foursome of senior Jordan Henderson, sophomore Eli Eekhoff, Dydell and senior Henry Jensen won the race in 1:38.21.

The fourth win came from Eekhoff in the 100 freestyle. He hit the wall with a winning time of 53.05.

The Cardinals won four of the 11 events, but Jones said his team placed second and third in several events.
