Jasper County burn ban lifted

The open burn ban in Jasper County has been lifted effective Tuesday, Oct. 20 afternoon.

Iowa State Fire Marshal Dan Wood released a statement saying Newton Fire Chief Jarrod Wellik, representing the the fire departments within Jasper County, requested the ban be lifted.

The ban was previously established Oct. 12 when Wellik on behalf of the Jasper County Fire Chiefs petitioned the state for the ban as per Iowa Code 100.40. The State Fire Marshal said the ban would be in place until the chiefs determined the conditions were once again safe to allow open burning.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, the burn ban was no longer in effect, according to the State Fire Marshal.
