Newton junior varsity football routs Benton

Newton’s junior varsity football team ended its season with a 41-21 win over Benton on Monday night.

The Cardinals turned the ball over twice in the first quarter but led 13-0 after one and 25-7 at the half.

The Newton JV finished its season with a 3-2 record.

NORWALK — Newton’s JV cross country teams competed in the Norwalk XC Invitational on Monday, and the Cardinal boys finished third in the standings with 100 points.

Senior Parker Aalbers led the Cardinals in 20th place with a time of 19 minutes, 44.9 seconds.

Junior Hunter Kennedy (20:03.3) was 27th, freshman Landon Menninga (20:05.6) finished 29th and sophomore Leo Friedman (20:12.9) took 32nd.

Sophomore Collin Buchli (20:23.5) was the final counting scorer in 34th.

The Newton girls were fifth with 150 points.

Junior Heather Perry was 62nd overall with a season-best time of 30:05.7.

Senior Sydni Followill (personal-record 30:31.7) was 63rd, junior Kathia Rosario (33:17.3) was 69th, senior Lexi Pollack (34:56) finished 72nd and sophomore Aryssa Hinderberger (35:28.7) took 73rd.
