PCM volleyball splits four at North Mahaska tournament

NEW SHARON — PCM's volleyball team won twice and lost twice at the North Mahaska tournament on Saturday.

PCM opened its day with a pair of pool play wins over host North Mahaska and Sigourney to secure a spot in the championship bracket.

The Mustangs downed the Warhawks 21-12, 18-21, 15-10 and swept Sigourney 21-13, 21-17. In their final pool play match, PCM lost to HLV 21-15, 21-16.

In the semifinals of the championship bracket, WACO (17-1) defeated the Mustangs 25-16, 25-19.

Against North Mahaska (4-4), senior Bella Stone finished with 11 assists and six digs, junior Claire Wilson tallied five kills, five digs and six aces and junior Chelsea Bird added 14 digs and two aces.

Senior Celeste Wagaman put down five kills, senior Jacki Vos had three kills and three digs and senior Emma Houser tallied two kills and five digs.

Sophomore Riley Johannes contributed three digs and three aces, senior Lilli Baird had four digs and senior Kassidy Block put down a pair of kills.

PCM finished 43-of-50 in serves with Bird serving 9-of-10 and Wilson 13-of-15.

In the win over Sigourney (3-7), Wagaman led the way with three kills, two digs and three aces, Stone dished out seven assists and Bird added six digs.

Wilson chipped in three digs and two aces, Vos had two kills and two digs and Houser and senior Teegan Giles each finished with two digs.

The Mustangs served 35-of-40 with Wagaman leading the way at 13-of-13. Shaver was 7-of-7 and Wilson was 8-of-9.

In the loss to HLV (5-6), Wagaman put down five kills, Bird had five digs and Stone delivered four assists. Wilson and Houser each finished with two digs.

PCM (9-14) was 29-of-37 in serves with Bird going 7-of-7.

Bird finished with 15 digs and two kills in the loss to WACO. Stone dished out six assists, Vos had four kills and Wagaman chipped in three kills and two blocks. Houser also had two digs.

Bird served 8-of-8 with the team going 31-of-35.

WACO won the tournament and was 5-0 on the day. HLV finished second with its only loss coming to WACO. PCM and Lynnville-Sully were the other two teams to advance to the championship bracket.

The Mustangs host Martensdale-St. Marys (2-5) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Monroe.
