Darvin Lloyd Smith, 92, of Colfax, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, at his home with his family at his side. A graveside funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 at McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The son of James Glenn Smith and Arminda Lucefene "Minnie" (Teed) Smith, Darvin was born Feb. 1, 1928, in Clear Creek Township. In 1953, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Norma K. Tobin. Darvin proudly served in the United States Navy from 1946 until 1948. During his lifetime, Darvin worked on the railroad and was employed at Winpower, Lennox and finally at the Maytag Corporation, where he retired in 1994. He was known for his love of family. He enjoyed sports, hunting, trapping, fishing and telling stories of his life. He also liked to farm and raise his garden, bake pies, go to auctions, mushroom hunt and collect stamps, coins and marbles. Although he was mostly self-educated, Darvin was an enthusiastic reader who never tired of learning new things. Everyone who knew him said Darvin was a kind and generous man.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Terrie (Dan) Hayden, Craig (Tez) Smith, Jani (Darrell) Williams and Brian (Andrea) Smith; seven grandchildren, Josh, Kari, Laci, Ashli, Zoe Elysa, Cade and Connor; and seven great-grandchildren, Malachi, Melody, Nyla, Cory, Collin, Selina and Kingston. Preceding Darvin in death were his parents; his wife, Norma; and eight siblings, Wayne, Norman, Lillian, Harold "Gandy," Janetta, Delmar "Lefty" and Leo.
