No. 2 Mustangs gallop past Saydel

DES MOINES — Class 2A No. 2 PCM had 352 yards at halftime and cruised to a 68-0 road win over Saydel during 2A District 8 play on Sept. 18.

The Mustangs improved to 4-0 on the season after compiling 475 total yards. They gained 20 first downs in the first half alone.

PCM led 28-0 after one quarter and 56-0 at halftime. The varsity did not play in the second half and the Mustangs still outscored Saydel 12-0.

Sophomore quarterback August Stock cracked the scoreboard in the first quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run.

Stock then hooked up with senior Gatlin Boell for touchdown passes of 20 and 12 yards to make it 21-0. Senior Sage Burns had a 1-yard TD run to complete the first-quarter scoring.

In the second, Stock hooked up with senior Brayden Berger for a 15-yard TD and then senior Jacob Van Winkle hauled in an 11-yard TD pass from Stock.

Junior Aidan Anderson sprinted 31 yards for a TD and then Burns hit paydirt on a 10-yard run with 6 seconds to play in the first half.

Senior Carson Duinink and junior Jacob Eslinger had touchdown runs of 12 and 3 yards, respectively, to cap the scoring.

Anderson rushed for 185 yards and a TD on 14 carries. Sophomore Gavin Fenton had 60 yards on 10 carries, Burns gained 34 yards and scored two TDs on six carries and Stock rushed for 25 yards and a TD on four carries.

Eslinger also rushed for 30 yards and one TD on four carries.

PCM (4-0 overall, 2-0 in the district) rushed for 390 yards in the win.

Stock threw for 98 yards and a career-best four TDs on seven completions. Both of Boell’s catches went for TDs as he gained 32 yards.

Berger had two catches for 29 yards and a TD and Van Winkle hauled in two passes for 20 yards and one TD.

Senior Landon Fenton also had one catch for 17 yards.

The Mustang defense had four interceptions, three of which were hauled in by senior Justin Maggard.

Senior Andrew Mitchell had one interception and two tackles, Maggard had 3.5 tackles and senior Grant Landgrebe finished with three tackles.

Junior Durant Van Dyke and Eslinger each had one sack and senior Caleb Duinink recovered a fumble.

The Mustang defense held Saydel to 18 total yards and one first down.

PCM plays Centerville for Homecoming at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 in Monroe.
