Two Cardinal baseball players land on all-LHC team

Two of Newton baseball team’s best players earned honorable mention all-conference recognition this past season.

Seniors Dalton Altemeier and Blake Sevenbergen were the two selections after finishing in the top three on the team in batting average.

Dallas Center-Grimes won the conference and advanced to the state tournament. Norwalk finished third in the league standings but ended up as the Class 3A state champion.

All-conference recognition is based on statistics inside Little Hawkeye Conference play only.

Altemeier led the Cardinals with a .250 batting and an on-base percentage of .545. He also had a team-high 11 walks, two hit by pitches, two RBIs and one homer. He was third on the team with three runs scored.

Sevenbergen ranked third on the team with a .222 batting average. His .300 OBP also ranked third on the team. He finished fourth with three walks and added one RBI and one stolen base.

Altemeier had a fielding percentage of .933 and Sevenbergen’s fielding percentage was .982. Both players committed only one error on the season.
