Mineral Springs Day canceled for this year

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect communities Colfax Main Street recently announced the Mineral Springs Day event for this year has officially been canceled.

Colfax Main Street Director Stuart Patterson said Main Street starts planning the event at the beginning of the year but the coronavirus quarantine made it difficult for them to meet or plan events, including Mineral Springs Day which led to its cancellation.

“We don’t know what the status of coronavirus is going to look like at the end of June and we don’t know what social distancing measures are still going to be at play,” Patterson said.

While the official celebration for Mineral Springs Day has been canceled, there may be a possibility for putting more emphasis on an event in the Fall but looking that far ahead during a pandemic can prove to be difficult.

“We are still in discussion about what we would like to do. There is a possibility that we are going to try to put more emphasis on an event in the Fall if we can,” Patterson said.

Colfax Main Street has been throwing around ideas about doing social distancing activities, like scavenger hunts or things to do while still social distancing, around the time that Mineral Springs Day was slated to take place.

“It is not going to look like a large event format for whatever we do right now,” Patterson said.

The rest of this year may look uncertain as the coronavirus pandemic continues to drag on and Patterson said Colfax Main Street isn’t sure what events will be going on the during the later half of this year. Nothing else in the future has been cancelled due to it being too early to tell.

“Our upcoming events are at the end of the year. We are still trying to feel it out about what the world is going to look like by then,” Patterson said.

Since it was announced that Mineral Springs Day wouldn’t be taking place this year the community has been understanding. Looking forward to next year’s Mineral Springs Day hopefully Colfax Main Street events are back on and the pandemic has passed.

“We are not probably going to get to do much this year as far as community events. I hope that next year people come out of the woodwork to help volunteer and help support future events that we do that the community puts together,” Patterson said.
